Bridge upgrade is one of the most '˜complex' projects undertaken

Crossley’s Bridge on Plymouth Road in Layton has been closed since last November.
The structure needs to be replaced because it is rotting.
The £6.1m scheme has also seen the bridge raised to allow for electrification works on the railway line below.
A temporary wooden footbridge, suitable for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists, has been put in place.
But motorists have been diverted via other routes.

When will the work finish?
Contractors have been working overnight to get the project finished on time.
It is on course to be completed so the road can be re-opened ahead of the Easter holidays.

Is this the only bridge needing repair?
No, it is among 10 bridges across Blackpool being repaired over a four year period as part of an £11.4m upgrade with funding from Blackpool Council, the Department for Transport’s Challenge Fund and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Fund.

Coun Fred Jackson, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “Replacing Plymouth Road bridge is probably one of the most complex highways projects Blackpool Council has ever undertaken.
“Working on a major road above the train line and near to residential houses meant every inch of the work was scrutinised as much as possible to make sure we could deliver the project on time and off-peak, to reduce the disruption as much as feasibly possible.
“So far, the project is going to plan; the rotten old bridge deck has been removed and new concrete beams have been installed. 
“The teams are working overnight to complete the work as quickly as possible, and everybody is looking towards reopening the road in time for the Easter holidays. would like to thank drivers for their ongoing patience.”
