Police have arrested a man in connection with the bomb scare at Fishergate Shopping Centre.

The 27-year-old, from Preston, was arrested this morning at an address in the city.

He is currently in custody being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

The Preston shopping centre was locked down for nine hours yesterday after a device exploded in the men’s toilets at 10am.

The device was made from an asthma inhaler, a firelighter and matches wrapped in paper, the device was set alight on a toilet seat.

Hundreds of shoppers were then evacuated as the Army’s bomb squad searched the building for more devices.

Police later released CCTV footage in an attempt to track down the man responsible for planting the device.
