A body found on St Annes beach has been identified.

Police have named the man, found on Monday around 8am, as 51-year-old Martin Lucas.

He disappeared from his home address on Fishergate Hill, Preston, on March 22.

Insp Richard Terry, of Preston Police, said: “This is sad news for the family who I hope can find some comfort in the tremendous support that has come from members of the public, family and friends in trying to help us find Martin.

“My thoughts are with Martin’s family, who have also done everything they can to assist us in finding him.

“Thanks to everyone who has helped us with our enquiries.”

Officers were called after a body was discovered on the sand opposite Beach Road, St Annes.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.
