POLICE are today hunting a gang of armed robbers who held a shopkeeper at gunpoint during a terrifying raid.

The three masked robbers stormed the Premier Cosmos Newsagents on Waterloo Road, South Shore, with a pistol and knife and aimed the weapons at a male shopkeeper while demanding cash.

They ran behind the counter, kicked the man in the back and prised open the till.

The men, who had scarves covering their faces, then fled with cash. Detectives and crime scene investigators spent last night at the store gathering evidence following the robbery at 6.10pm.

Det Insp Kevin Simmons, leading the investigation for Blackpool CID, said: “An investigation is underway. We’re currently talking to a number of different people to establish the circumstances.”

A member of the public sounded the alarm after seeing the three men running from the shop towards Harris Avenue and Ansdell Road.
