Bispham-born soap star in killer illness scare thanks medics who helped her

Bispham-born Emmerdale and Corrie actress Hayley Tamaddon was admitted to hospital with suspected meningitis, the star revealed yesterday.

The 40-year-old, who went to Montgomery High School and also won Dancing on Ice alongside Dan Whiston, used social media to thank the medics who cared for her.

She said she was admitted to Salford Royal Infirmary last Thursday after it was feared she had contracted the killer illness.

“But I’m luckily and thankfully ok,” she tweeted.

“I’m home today and will go back as an outpatient for further tests.

“I want to say the biggest thank you to the wonderful staff and paramedic and hope this message gets to them.

“In A&E – Dan and Aaron – who looked after me so well and tried hard to lift my spirits.

“In EAU [emergency assessment unit] I’d like to thank Charles, a wonderful and kind doctor, Julie, Suzanna, and Mel Mellor who did my lumber puncture. Thank you for being wonderful.

“And in Ward M3, my brilliant and funny doctor Mark.

“Sophie, Sam, and the lovely lady going to India for her holidays.”

She added: “Thank you for making me better and looking after me.

“You are all incredible people, who work incredibly hard. Thank you so, so much.”

Hayley, who trained at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks, played Del Dingle on ITV’s Emmerdale between July 2005 and May 2007, before later playing Andrea Beckett on Coronation Street from December 2013 to September 2015.
