New beginnings was the theme at St George’s School as the Bishop Of Lancaster officially welcomed in the new headteacher.

The Bishop of Lancaster Rev Geoff Pearson visited the Marton school to bless the head ship of John Townsend who took over the reigns in September.

He toured the Cherry Tree Road school and met members of the school’s Christian Union.

He then led a service and Eucharist aided by invited guests including governors, local clergy and students.

Later, Mr Townsend led the congregation outside to plant the tree grown by former headteacher Elizabeth Warner last summer.

He said: “I very much enjoyed the service, as did our guests and students.

“It was a very special and memorable day for the future of St George’s School, the community and myself.”
