BLACKPOOL superstar DJ Danny Howard has been confirmed as the latest addition to the star-studded line-up who regularly hit the airwaves on one of the world’s biggest radio station.
It has been announced Danny, from South Shore, will front his very own Radio 1 show every Saturday from 4pm to 7pm.
The popularity of the former Syndicate nightclub DJ has rocketed since he won the station’s Superstar DJ 2011 competition in the Summer and opened Radio 1’s Ibiza Weekend at the Ushuaia Hotel in Ibiza.
He told The Gazette: “This time last year I was a regular Radio 1 listener and to get my own show is crazy.
“I did a show over Christmas and they told me that was good, then the producers invited me back down to London to do some pilot shows and after listening to them offered me the show.
“I was amazed by that because it’s a prime time slot on Radio 1. To even get 3am would have been amazing, but this is mind-blowing.”
The former Lytham St Annes High School pupil has played regular sets in Blackpool, including at the popular Sanuk nightclub.
But it was not until he won the Radio 1 competition in the summer his career took off.
He has since been back to the Balearic island to play the Ibiza Rewind Show and performed in front of revellers around the UK.
The 24-year-old added: “It’s an amazing feeling to think I’ll be on Radio 1 every week and a dream come true because I’ve been listening to their DJs Pete Tong and Judge Jules since I was 13.”
Instead of listening to the record spinners he idolised, Danny now has their numbers in his mobile and received a phone call from Judge Jules wishing him luck when his new show was announced.
Radio 1’s Dance Anthems with Danny Howard begins on April 7.
Danny’s first single is also set to be launched by David Guetta’s New York-based label Spinnin’ Records in late March.
