After promises of a heatwave for the beginning of June, the weather on the Fylde coast has finally started to heat up...and businesses in Blackpool are basking in an increase in customers.
The manager of Waterloo Road-based ice cream shop Notarianni’s, Luca Vettese, told how the start of a burst of warm weather yesterday had brought more people to his door.
He added: “It’s been a busy morning for us today so far.
“It never usually gets this busy so early on, but today we have seen people coming on their bikes to come and get ice creams. We are expecting an even busier afternoon.”
A spokeswoman at the Beach House Bistro Bar, on the Promenade, said: “We have had a lot of people here today and some have even been sitting outside enjoying the sun.
“At the moment we are almost full and there’s even a few people who have come inside to shelter from the heat!”
The weather has also brought the people of Blackpool and surrounding areas outdoors to enjoy the fresh air.
Chairman of the Friends of Stanley Park, Elaine Smith, said: “There has been a lot of people coming to Stanley Park to enjoy this pleasant sunshine.
“We were left disappointed last weekend when the band who were set to play at the band stand cancelled due to bad weather. It was very windy and rainy and the band felt that they could not play.
“So we are praying that this lovely weather continues up until Sunday when the next band will be playing.”
Temperatures were up to 19C yesterday, but there is set to be a temperature drop today with one or two showers expected at around 1pm.
But the weekend is expected to see sunshine return once more.
