AN arson probe was today launched after a blaze at a derelict Blackpool hotel.
Twenty five firefighters battled the flames at the former Shadowlands Hotel on Pleasant Street.
Six crews from Blackpool, Fleetwood, Bispham, St Annes, South Shore and an aerial ladder platform were called to the blaze just before 3am today following a call from a member of the public.
Crews arrived to find flames and smoke pouring out of the first and second floors of the three-storey building.
Crew manager Andrew Jones, from Blackpool fire station, said: “Firefighters conducted a thorough search to make sure no-one was inside. With the building being derelict, and with holes in the floors and missing staircases, it posed significant dangers.
“There were multiple seats of fire. It took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
“It is being treated as suspicious and there will now be a joint police and fire investigation.”
The blaze was put out at around 4.50am. Pleasant Street was closed for around two hours.
Nobody was injured, but there was severe damage to the second and third floors and smoke damage to the first floor.
