Appeal after tourist is assaulted in resort bar

Police are asking for the public’s help after a tourist enjoying a weekend away with friends suffered a fractured jaw after a serious assault in a Blackpool bar.

Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the attack, which took place in Bar 19, on Queen Street.

The victim, a 28-year-old man from Burton-on-Trent, was visiting the resort with friends when a confrontation occurred at the nightspot.

The tourist was involved in an argument with a man inside the bar, before he was punched.

He was initially treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital before being transferred to Royal Preston Hospital.

Now police want to trace a man over the assault, which happened at around 12.30am on Saturday July 6.

Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

Det Con Clare Wilson, who is investigating the incident,said: “This was a serious assault resulting in a serious injury to a man who was trying to enjoy a weekend with friends in Blackpool.

“We have some pretty good CCTV images of a man we are very keen to speak to in connection with this assault; if anybody recognises him I would ask them to contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from anybody who may have witnessed the assault or has any information about it; any amount of information could help.”
