BLACKPOOL-born Steve Redman is back in the area and determined to put Blackpool back at the forefront of live entertainment.
He has opened a branch of his Norwegian-based IDEA Entertainments Agency on the Fylde coast, and on Monday and Tuesday is launching its UK operation with two nights of showcases at Sands Venue on Central Promenade.
Established in 1973, IDEA has grown to become the largest entertainment and DJ provider in Scandinavia, and Steve bought it 13 years ago.
Since then the company has expanded to provide entertainment, sound, lighting and conference equipment to cruise ships and land-based venues around the world.
Now he wants Blackpool to benefit from his company’s expertise.
“I am Blackpool by birth and I have seen its decline in recent years,” he said. “But I have got a lot of faith in the place and I am sure it can get back to where it belongs.
“I really believe it can become the top entertainment resort again. I’m very, very passionate about it.”
So much so that eight months ago he decided to: “Put my money where my mouth is and come home.”
He has now moved his wife and two young children to Cleveleys and sees the Monday and Tuesday showcases as the start of something big.
“There will be over 100 performers and six amazing production shows in one night alone,” he said. “This is our annual showcase, but it’s the biggest one we have staged yet – and the biggest one of its kind Blackpool has seen.” Admission to the event is free (by ticket only), and he is hoping hoteliers, venue owners and managers and all entertainment providers will turn up.
“We are a one-stop company, which can provide everything from a pianist or a DJ to a completely fully produced show,” he said. “I want to bring a breath of fresh air to the business. I’ve a load of ideas for the year ahead and see this is as a long-term project. I have put everything into this move because I have so much faith in it being a success.”
