GOLFERS scored a hole in one for Blackpool Tiggers with a generous £200 donation towards their refurbishment.
The De Vere Golf Club has been an avid supporter of Tiggers for the last year since captain Chris Prewett picked them as his chosen charity.
Through golf tournaments, sponsored events and many other fundraising activities, the charity has received in the region of £4,000 towards running costs.
Now as Mr Prewett’s fundraising year comes to an end, Tiggers has resolved to put the final £200 towards their refurbishment fund.
Blackpool Tiggers is an activity group for autistic children and provides ways for them and their families to get the most from their lives.
But their St Annes Road base desperately needs £40,000 for a major refurbishment and as government cuts slash charity grants, the future looks bleak.
Now The Gazette has made the plight of Blackpool Tiggers the paper’s latest campaign and launched Bouncing High for Autism.
We are asking the public to dig deep to send Tiggers safely into the future.
The charity say they would be nowhere without the loyal support of organisations like De Vere Golf Club.
Sheila Cullinane, from Tiggers, said: “I doubt we would still be here if it wasn’t for the help from people like the golf club.
“They have allowed us to keep our heads above water and we are extremely grateful.
“The help of the local community is so important.”
