THERE was musical drama at the Winter Gardens on Saturday as the annual Spring Brass Band Festival trumpeted into town.
The 92nd annual meet saw 60 smartly dressed bands from all corners of the country descend on Blackpool.
With three gleaming trophies at stake and a chance to qualify for the British Open Brass Band Championship, the standard was high.
Sparkling instruments were piled high on trade stands and brass lovers poured in for a musical treat as bands filled the Opera House, Empress Ballroom and the Pavilion.
Frank Hodges, contest co-ordinator, said: “This is a really important event for brass bands, especially those trying to win a place in the championship.
“People travel from all over, we’ve got one band that has travelled all the way from Cornwall. We love the facilities at the Winter Gardens.”
