BLACKPOOL stars are set to be under the spotlight this Saturday as Britain’s Got Talent returns to TV screens.

Auditions for the hit ITV show roared into the resort in January as hundreds of hopefuls showcased their often strange skills.

Huge queues formed on Church Street as fans of the show waited for hours to catch a glimpse of judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Aleesha Dixon.

And those lucky enough to get a seat in The Winter Gardens also got to see the colourful acts hoping to win the judge’s approval and a place in the show.

But the rest of the country will have to wait until Saturday to find out which lucky local stars made the cut.

The Gazette can today give a sneak preview however of who you can expect to see on your TV screens.

Blackpool’s musical Petulengro sisters – New Romany’s – will appear after the trio impressed with their accordion and guitar playing.

Today Julie, proud mum of Nancy, 16, Sarah Jane, 27, and Julie, 21, spoke of her excitement. She said: “The girls have been very excited since the auditions.

“I was in the audience watching so felt quite nervous when they walked on to face the judges but I was very proud of them.

“They’ve been working very hard since then and we are looking forward to seeing the show on TV.

“I know lots of filming was done in Blackpool because of the auditions so hopefully the whole country will get to see footage of how much better the town is looking.”

A Britain’s Got Talent Parade was held in the resort on January 18, a week before the auditions to drum up excitement for the show.

Judge Amanda Holden missed the Blackpool audition after she went into early labour.

Anna Izza from the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board said: “Blackpool’s reputation was built on entertainment and variety.

“It’s a place where home grown as well as visiting talent, has enjoying performing in stunning venues.

“I’m sure the Britain’s Got Talent team felt very much at home in Blackpool and the town’s appearance on the show will remind viewers just how thrilling a visit here can be.”

”Nancy Petulengro will be performing at The Venue in Cleveleys on Friday March 30.
