The store is one of the German company’s eco-friendly designs with a fully glass fronted façade to maximise natural daylight entering the building, with sensor controlled exterior sun blinds to reduce unwanted heat from the sun.

It also uses LED lighting which are 50 per more energy efficient than regular bulbs.

It has an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and parking for both cars and bicycles.

It is part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK which will see its existing store portfolio of 640 stores increase to up to 1,500.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Poulton.

“It is wonderful for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”
