A GROUP of friends are on a fund-raising mission to build a new park for their children.

The Friends of Freckleton Memorial Park say their local play area is run down and boring, and are attempting to raise £60,000 for a brand new outdoor haven for youngsters.

Condemned

Members say the park on Preston Old Road is so dated, the old swings, climbing frame and slide were there when they were children, and are close to being condemned.

Chairwoman Lyn Braithwaite said: “We did a survey that showed 90 per cent of parents took their children to parks in Kirkham and Lytham because of the lack of equipment in Freckleton.

“Parents told us there was not enough for toddlers, and children wanted a skate ramp and a big climbing frame.

“The current equipment is only just passing as safe; next year it will have to be ripped out.” The group, which has so far raised £3,500, has had plans drawn up of the new park, which would include four separate areas for different age groups.

They will be on display at a fun day at the park to raise money for the project on March 31 from 11am to 3pm.
