RESIDENTS' lives have been put at risk after vandals attacked a Wesham pond, causing serious damage to life-saving equipment.
During the Christmas period, yobs vandalised the Bowland Grange pond and uprooted the life-saving ring and assembly unit – the only safety feature at the pond.

The pond, which has deep water, is a popular destination for Wesham residents, who ofte
n visit the Bowland Grange site. Wesham councillor, Simon Renwick, hit out at the vandals who damaged the pond and said he is ‘disgusted’ by the act.

Coun Renwick said: “I find this kind of act despicable. If a child or come anyone else slipped into the water, who knows what could happen.

“This is the only safety feature at the pond, and without the safety ring the chances get slimmer.”

This latest act of vandalism hasn’t put off officials in carrying out their plans for a revamp of the pond.

Following the temporary repair of the life ring, officials now hope to tidy up the pond itself as well as the surrounding areas.

Work is expected to be carried out to the pond as well as some refurbishment to the paths leading from to and from the attraction.

New fencing could also be erected as part of the small revamp to the Wesham park.
