Wonderfully witty

Former frontman of The Kinks and British pop legend Ray Davies will not now be making his long overdue appearance in Blackpool.

The previously reported UK tour of the award-winning new 50s musical Come Dancing, written by and starring Davies, has now been cancelled and will be replaced in Blackpool with Dreamboats and Petticoats – making its third visit to the Blackpool theatre as next year's easter attraction from Monday, April 5, to Saturday, April 10, with an all-star cast to be announced.

Also just revealed for 2010 appearances at the Grand are the return of comic legend Ken Dodd with his much-loved Happiness Show, a first headline set from John Walker of the walker Brothers in concert with The Dakotas and the Blackpool debut of the wonderfully witty Kenneth Williams' extravaganza, Stop Messing About.

From the team that presented the successful stage show Round The Horne... Revisited comes a laugh-a-minute evening, as Kenneth Williams' waspish wit takes centre stage.

Stop Messing About is set during a live recording, packed with outrageously funny sketches, parodies and songs, which reunited Kenneth Williams with his Carry On co-stars Joan Sims and Hugh Paddick, transporting the audience back to a time when comedy meant being funny with scarcely a swear word in sight.

This entertaining show comes from the pens of comedy writing legends Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke who were responsible for some of Britain's best-loved sitcoms including Man About The House, Robin's Nest, Father Dear Father and George and Mildred.

Stop Messing About – The Kenneth Williams Extravaganza runs Monday and Tuesday, April 19 and 20. All tickets 19.50.

John Walker returns to the Grand following his acclaimed appearance in 2009 with the Solid Silver 60s Show. John is one of the famous Walker Brothers who recorded hits such as Love Her, Make It Easy On Yourself, My Ship Is Coming In and The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore.

John's solo singles include Annabella, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, Kentucky Woman and If I Promise. John is joined once again by The Dakotas who were one of the earliest of the bands to appear at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool in the 60s, where they met The Beatles. Together with Billy J Kramer their many hits include Do You Want To Know A Secret, Bad To Me, I'll Keep You Satisfied, From A Window and Little Children.

Special guests Jog The Memory will set the mood for the evening with their set of 60s and 70s songs.

John Walker In Concert with The Dakotas plus special guests Jog The Memory rocks into the Grand on Thursday April 22. All tickets 17.

Ken Dodd – The Happiness Show is back at Blackpool's Grand on Saturday July 17 and Sundays 26th September, 10th, 17th, 24th October and 7th November. Tickets from 16.
