Cheers! This happy couple are celebrating after their “unbelievable” victory in The Gazette’s Win A Wedding competition.
Joseph Connell and Emma Pragnell are now excitedly planning their dream day for next summer after winning the contest, which saw hopefuls from across the Fylde coast enter.
Joseph, 26, and Emma, 24, from Henley Court, Bispham, toasted their success with champagne at the Glendower Hotel, on North Promenade, St Annes – which will host their big day.
The couple were encouraged to enter by Emma’s grandmother.
Emma, a receptionist at the Cliffs Hotel, on the Promenade, said: It’s unbelievable.
“We had nothing to lose, but we didn’t think in a million years we’d win it.”
Joseph, a delivery driver for Same Day Beers, added: “It still doesn’t seem real.
“We were planning on getting married, but it wouldn’t have been for a couple of years.”
Joseph and Emma, who have been going out for two-and-a-half years, got engaged on May 23 and plan to tie the knot next summer.
The £8,000 prize includes the ceremony (except the cost of the rgeistrar), reception, wedding breakfast, wedding dress, suits, photography, flowers, invitations and bridal hair and make up.
Emma said: “We can definitely have the day that we want now. The money we’d already put towards it can be used for the really nice extra bits that we wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.”
Couples entering the competition sent in an entry form, including a piece of fewer than 100 words on why they should win the prize.
Emma Lock, senior promotions coordinator at The Gazette, said: “We received some wonderful entries and they turned up in their masses, but we managed to whittle it down to the final 12.
“It was then down to our readers to vote for their favourite couple, which they did in their thousands.
“We would like to congratulate Emma and Joseph on winning this fabulous wedding prize.
“This is a great feel-good competition The Gazette could not have done without all the sponsors and help from the local community.
“So we would like to say a big thank-you all round.”
