Titania in duplicate!

The casting of parts for a school drama production is always a difficult exercise, with the need to fill all the characters of the play with as strong performers as possible.

The dilemma that Neil Walker, producer of A Midsummer Night's Dream at King Edward and Queen Mary School, had was that he had two outstanding candidates for the part of Titania.

"School drama is about giving young people the opportunity to perform in public and to experience the pressure and dedication that is needed to perform well," he said. "With that in mind, I decided to share the part between two students – Sarah Lenney and Olivia Swift (both above) –so that neither misses out.

"It's certainly a nice position to be in with two very talented actresses' ideal for the part."

Drama at KEQMS provides pupils with a wide ranging style of plays to perform in - from Pride and Prejudice to Little Shop of Horrors and now A Midsummer Night's Dream.

"It is quite refreshing to find a school taking on the challenge of Shakespeare and allowing young actors and actresses the chance to perform such material," he added.

The show runs from tomorrow until Friday. Tickets are available from the school or by calling (01253) 784100.
