There's nothing like being a Dame
COMEDIAN and radio presenter Ted Robbins is changing sex for the next Preston Charter Theatre pantomime.
With Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs having ended its record-breaking run at the theatre, venue general manager Chris Haylett, who produces the panto for Guild Hall Productions and Preston City Council, has already finalised plans for next winter's pantomime, which will be the traditional tale of Aladdin.
Star of CBBC's The Slammer and BBC Radio Lancashire, Ted Robbins will once again be at the helm, as writer and director.
Additionally Ted, who was seen on prime time BBC TV twice on New Year's Day, in Eric and Ernie and also Come Fly With Me, will take on the role of Widow Twankey.
Ted says he is delighted to be dressing up as Dame, a role he also adopted during A Slammer Christmas, broadcast on BBC One on December 22.
"The Dame is a vital part of traditional panto, and being able to dress and act outrageously is just so much fun," he said. "Widow Twankey is probably the best-known of all the Dames, and I can't wait to get into costume to entertain the audiences. Putting a smile on the faces of all those people in the auditorium is the best Christmas present I could ask for."
More than 27,000 people enjoyed his performance as Muddles in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, alongside Kay Purcell as the Wicked Queen and children's favourite Noddy.
Aladdin will play the Charter Theatre from Tuesday, December 6 to Monday, January 2. Details of performance times and tickets are available from the box office on (0845) 344 2012 or online at www.prestonguildhall.com
