The magic is back

There's magic in the air with the revival of the Blackpool & Fylde Mystics. The magical society was originally established in 1958 and members of the re-formed rival to the Blackpool Magicians Club say it is fitting the new look gathering has been launched in the 50th anniversary year of the original.

The first meeting of the re-formed Blackpool & Fylde Mystics was held in August and was attended by seven people, including one of the original founder members, Ken Ashburn.

It was agreed at the outset that both Ken Ashburn and Laurie Gleeson, another founder member, should be made Honourary Life Members of the Blackpool & Fylde Mystics in recognition of their involvement in forming the society all those years ago. Both Ken and Laurie have been pleased to accept the position.

In the preliminary discussions about the re-formation of the society it was agreed that the main aim of the society would be the performance of magic.

With a full programme of events compiled for the next 12 months it is hoped that the society will attract other like minded magicians. Membership is open to all practicing magicians who wish to perform and share their magical experiences with fellow enthusiasts.

Members are also encouraged to be active members of other societies firmly believing in "Friendship Through the Art of Magic" says member Alan Mylecraine.

The BFM has just held its third meeting and membership is beginning to grow with like minded enthusiastic magicians joining and performing at each meeting.

"We are currently compiling the history of the society and would appreciate anyone who may have been a past member of the society or know snippets of its history to get in touch," says Alan.

Meetings are held at 8pm on the first Tuesday of each month at the Frank Townend Community Centre in Cleveleys.

Anyone requiring more information or an application form should contact Alan Mylecraine on (07961) 826121 or email info@fyld emystics.co.uk or through the website www.fyldemystics.co.uk
