Talented young pianist to star at recital

THE third Fylde Arts Young Artists' Platform recital on Friday, August 20 at Lytham Assembly rooms will be given by pianist Peter Rossiter.

Peter was born in 1982 in Merseyside and has been blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other since birth, but his visual handicap did not hold him back.

He began to teach himself piano at 14 and began lessons a year later, demonstrating an amazingly quick ability to learn.

He was the youngest and only UK entrant in the senior group to be selected for the Fourth International Competition for Young Pianists in Kiev, Ukraine and also received a diploma in the International 21st Century Art and Education Competition in Copenhagen, as well as giving concerts during his time over there.

He was a first prize winner at numerous festivals and has played in recitals and charity concerts all around England. He also performed on BBC Radio 4, Live at St Martin's-in-the-Fields.

He entered Chetham's School of Music and graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a distinction in recital.

He was also awarded scholarships and support to study an Advanced Postgraduate degree at Birmingham Conservatoire, from where he graduated with distinction.

Peter has an active career in Manchester, Birmingham and London playing solo, accompaniment, chamber music and orchestral piano but also has a great love for teaching.

He teaches piano privately and at the Midlands Art Centre and is also the music director at St Mark's Londonderry.

He performed in the majority of special events during his time at the RNCM and Birmingham Conservatoire, including many contemporary events where he has had works commissioned for him.

Friday's programme begins at 2pm and contains popular works by Chopin (Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Etudes – Tristesse, Aeolian Harp and Black Keys), Waltzes (Adieu, Minute, Grande Valse Brillants), and Liszt (Hungarian Rhapsody in C sharp minor).
