Three’s a magic number at Rossall

ROSSALL School are celebrating another Lancashire Cup hockey treble.
The Under-14s won the cup with a dominant 5-1 victory over Manchester GS, while Tom Morrison’s last goal sealed a thrilling 5-4 win for the Under-16s.
A run of 12 straight wins saw the Under-18s lift the league title, as well as the cup, and included a 17-0 win over Manchester.
All three teams have won the cup three years running, and the Under-13s also aim to retain theirs this term.
The first XI continued their excellent start to the term, with a 5-3 win over North of England champions King’s, Chester.
King’s have also been in fine form, and opened the scoring, but Rossall hit back to lead 3-1 at half-time through two well-taken Jack Bradley goals, and a fine strike by Dale Fisher.
King’s equalised after the break, only for Rossall to cruise to victory with goals from Jack Morrison and Felix Boese.
A Denstone College side from Staffordshire, coached by Olympic gold medallist Imran Shiawi, were Rossall’s next opponents. Something had to give as both sides were unbeaten. Denstone defended strongly, and took the lead on the break against injury-hit Rossall. However, great determination saw Felix Boese fire an equaliser into the top corner.
Rossall camped in the Denstone half, but could not find a winner, as an outstanding game ended 1-1.
The under-14s had a splendid 2-0 victory over Merchant Taylor’s from Crosby, with goals by Charlie Roberts and the skilful Danny Evans.
The Under-13s lost to Denstone College, but defeated North of England champions Malsis School 5-1.
The Under-12s beat Denstone 1-0 away at both A and B levels.
The A team did a good job of spreading play wide and creating chances. Bradley Sharples took the one that mattered late in the first half, finding the bottom corner with a low reverse shot.
Harrison Stott, Alex Eastham and Teo Beaume stood firm in the second half to achieve a fantastic win. Bradley Gosling and Eastham shared the man of the match award.
Many of those in the B team had never played competitive hockey before, but they started their game in great style, as Will McCaragher deflected in the winner before half-time.
The goalscorer shared the man of the match award with Lee Jagger, who had a great game in attack.
