Perfect start for Arnold

Arnold School second XI

Arnold School second XI

ARNOLD School’s first term of competitive football for 40 years continued with first and second XI derbies against Rossall.

Both Arnold sides were at home and made it two wins out of two this season.

Captain David Mitchell was again superb at the back for the first team, partnered by Joe Welch, while Mitchell Bolus scored the goal.

Alex Casey was outstanding in goal, as was the Rossall keeper, who denied Alex Naylor, Jacob Reid and Andrew Walkden.

The seconds made it 16 goals in two games with a splendid 10-1 victory.

James Aird almost opened the scoring from a corner by the outstanding Owen Burrows in the very first minute, but within a minute Harrison Kenworthy headed another Burrows corner into the top left corner.

Declan Humphries had a goal disallowed for a foul but Arnold were 2-0 up after eight minutes as provider Burrows turned scorer by driving the ball home from the left.

James Kidner, so effective down the right, scored a minute later and Kenworthy’s second made it 4-0 after 15 minutes.

Alex Fowler stood out in midfield as Burrows saw his half-volley tipped against the bar.

Max Reid and Andrew Cowburn linked up for Kidner to score a second, as did Burrows to make it 6-0 at half-time.

Rossall pulled one back when a free-kick from halfway caught the keeper off his line, but Arnold responded well as Lewis Dunsmore-Nield poked home Burrows’ cross and neatly added a second.

With Whiteside making some devastating runs, Kenworthy completed his hat-trick and Oli Parker finished the move of the match as his first-time shot went in off a post.
