Stepping in with a new Elvis tribute

ELVIS has left the building – and the resort.

After five successful years the annual Elvis Presley convention and competition has gone from strength to strength – first at the Queens Hotel, South Promenade and then at the Norbreck Castle.

But founder Martin Fox has now sold the event's rights to business partner and fellow Elvis tribute act Michael King who has moved the entire event to Birmingham.

But all is not lost for local fans of the King of Rock and Roll.

"A lot of Blackpool Elvis fans were very disappointed with Michael's decision, so I have put on two Elvis Birthday Celebration Shows at the Norbreck Castle Hotel on January 8 and 9," said Blackpool-based Martin.

The event will also be supporting the Tickets For Troops charity.

"We are pleased and honoured to have been selected to support the charity organised to support current serving members of HM Forces and those medically discharged since 2001," said Martin. "Elvis himself served two years in the US Army, and throughout his career supported several charitable organisations and we are sure he would be pleased to be linked to help support this great cause.

"Several of the performers and producers of the Elvis Tribute Shows have served in the Army, Navy and the police force, and still have close contact to current serving members of the forces, and therefore this new charity carries a special meaning."

The new Norbreck event features two separate evening shows with a different theme each evening. Saturday January 8 celebrates Elvis' birthday with five Elvis tribute artists presenting a Rock of Ages show performing many of Presley's greatest songs and hits from the 50', 60's and 70's.

On Sunday evening January 9 the same five Elvis tributes – Martin Fox, Rob Kingsley, Paul Larcombe, Mike Nova and Kirk Kreole will perform a Rock My Soul concert featuring a selection of Elvis's favourite gospel and inspirational songs.

A number of free tickets for both evening shows are available from the Tickets for Troops website

All serving members of HM Forces, and all those medically discharged since the commencement of military action in Afghanistan in 2001, are eligible to register for tickets with Tickets for Troops on www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk.
