Something to laugh about at the Grand

FIVE star comedy continues to take the spotlight at Blackpool Grand Theatre with a season of one night stands lined up to follow the recent filming of Michael McIntyre's star-studded Comedy Roadshow at the venue.

Self-styled showbiz legend and

revered raconteur Count Arthur Strong will be bringing a clever touch of old-fashioned comedy to the Grand when he makes his Blackpool debut on Tuesday February 22 with his Command Performance Tour as part of next year's Showzam! festival.

Count Arthur is a faded variety star with a failing memory and ever-loosening grasp on the English language.

He started life at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1997 and has become a cult figure on BBC Radio 4, which has broadcast six series of his Sony Award-winning sitcom.

Also new to the Grand are comedy duo Ben Miller and Alexander Armstrong who will be bringing The Armstrong & Miller Show Live to town on Sunday October 3.

With their usual mix of the beautifully observed and the utterly barmy; Ben and Xander will be performing a parade of characters from their extensive dressing-up box and wig-store including the street-talking WWII chav pilots; Brabbins and Fyffe – the filthy alter-egos of Flanders and Swann; Jilted Jim – dumped at the altar but still on his honeymoon; Terry Devlin – the royal correspondent who really knows the royals; Dennis Lincoln-Park – the accident-prone culture buff; the Frank Dad; and so many more.

They say that great comedians come in cycles and internationally

acclaimed stand up star Stewart Francis seems to have taken that literally in his new show Tour de Francis which sees him make his Blackpool debut on Sunday November. 21.

Stewart moved to England from his native Canada two years ago and is best known for his incredible one-liners and for storming Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow (BBC1) last year and as a regular face on BBC2's Mock The Week and Channel 4's 8 Out of 10 Cats.

An accomplished actor, writer and comedian; Stewart has performed his slick, perfectly-timed wealth of gags all over the world from the US to Kilkenny and Aspen to South Africa.

First out of the traps though is comedy king of the jungle Joe Pasquale who returns to the Grand on Sunday August 22 for a night of stand up with his brand new show Just Joe!

Joe's renowned summer tours are part of the comic's personal quest to make sure holidaymakers keep on laughing and have become part of the fabric of the 'Great British Summer Holiday'.

Ken Dodd OBE is once again leaving the Diddy Men in the Jam Butty Mines of Knotty Ash to bring his famous Happiness Show on Sundays September 26, October 10, 17 and 24 and November 7.

Dublin-born comedy star Ed Byrne completes the comedy round-up when he drops in on Sunday April 17 with his brand new one man show. Ed is a Perrier Award-nominated, stand up comedian, actor and voice over artist who has presented numerous television shows from Uncut! Best Unseen Ads to BBC2's Mock the Week and Just For Laughs, and is a regular guest on various TV panel shows.

Ed's chatty style of observational comedy and colourful anecdotes

appeals to most audiences, occasionally veering off into innovative ideas and threads. Early booking is advisable as this show may sell out!
