Blackpool’s successful Soul Suite is preparing for its massive Sixth Birthday Party next Thursday night.

The invitation night is a thank you to the venue’s customers who have seen the Queen Square bar go from strength to strength, says owner Carol Hendry.

“I think people like us because there is always a friendly atmosphere, the music policy suits them and we are not too big,” she said.

“We get people travelling from all over and we seem to have become something of an institution during the six years we have been here.”

As well as operating as an evening venue for recorded and live soul music, Soul Suite is also open daily from 11am to 6pm for food and has recently introduced a successful Singles Night on the second Saturday of every month.

“We keep adding things to what we have to offer and because we are a private operation we can bring in changes overnight and not have to go through a series of meetings,” said Carol. “We listen to what out regulars want and we try and provide it for them.”

Although the official party is next Thursday (with a bubbly reception, Indian and English buffet and a full night of live entertainment) the fun starts this weekend with a live appearance of soul man Hayden Love, plus Geoff Rey and Co and resident DJs.

Next Friday sees the return of Marvin Ruffin to the venue.

There’s also music on record every night with the venue open until 3am.

“We are now looking forward to the next six years and I’m sure Blackpool will be getting busier again now that the promenade work is coming to an end and there’s some big investment in town,” said Carol.

“I think all the developments down Market Street will actually help everyone in the club, pub and bar business because the more there is on offer the more people will be attracted back to Blackpool town centre.”
