ROLL up, folks, for a film show looking back to Fleetwood's past.

The North West Film Archive is bringing a selection of historic movies to the Marine Hall tomorrow night, for the public to see.

The vintage film night, which starts at 7.30pm, will include footage dating as far back as the 1920s.

Fleetwood Museum has been heavily involved in organising the presentation, the first of many events to mark Fleetwood's 175th birthday, throughout this year.

Local historian Dick Gillingham, a volunteer with the museum, said: "There will be a few films of Thornton and Poulton, but the films will mainly be about Fleetwood.

"I understand there will be a wide selection, which will be of great interest to people from this area."

The night will feature a number of historic Royal visits to Fleetwood, including the Duke of Kent's arrival in the 1920s, and newly-crowned King George VI's tour of Lancashire in 1938, with Queen Elizabeth, better known to most of us by her later title of the Queen Mother.

There will be a number of promotional films of Fleetwood, including one showing the Marine Hall itself with its wonderful flower beds in the 1930s.

For those with an interest in trawlers, there will be footage of the Spit Head Review in the Coronation year, in 1953.

And the films of Thornton will include one showing a children's sports day event.

A similar event five years ago attracted an audience of 500 people, when the films included a 1950s beauty pageant in Fleetwood.

* To book the 5 tickets, ring (01253) 873824 or (01253) 887693 or just turn up tomorrow night in good time for the screening.
