The 2011 Guitarfest Derrin Nauendorf

FLEETWOOD’S rock hotspot The Prince Arthur plays host to Australian singer/songwriter Derrin Nauendorf tonight.

He is currently touring the UK and Europe promoting his new album, Skin of The Earth, and last night was performing in London.

Derrin first arrived in the UK from Australia in 2001 with a guitar, £1,200 and several layers of clothing.

Determined to make something of his musical career, Darren has gigged relentlessly since then, playing “anywhere that would have me, sleeping on floors and living on tuna baguettes.”

He lived in an old Post Office van for six months, using the vehicle to tour the UK and to stay overnight between gigs.

Since then, Derrin has made six CDs, selling more than 12,000 copies, many of them from the back of his improvised motor home. He has performed in Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France and Spain, as well as his native Australia.

Derrin’s influences include Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Martin Stevenson and Richard Thompson, but his blend of blues/roots music sounds like no one else.

An intense and raw performer, Derrin is at his best in the kind of intimate, live setting provided by venues like this one on Lord Street. Admission is free and the music starts at 9pm.
