The 16 finalists in this year’s Miss Blackpool competition had chance to really let their hair down and have fun with a photo shoot at The Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool.

The girls enjoyed swimming, splashing around and chatting to each other, as part of the build-up to the annual contest – which next year celebrates its 60th year.

Organiser Karen Jean Cookson, from Angels Elite Modelling Agency, said: “It was a great event, the girls all had a lovely time.

“It’s a chance for them to have fun and to show that side of themselves.

“For some it’s the only time they have had chance to take part in a photoshoot.

“It was a brilliant evening which gave the girls chance to get to know each other.

“Footage from the Sandcastle event will be shown in the final.

“We are now really looking forward to the grand final event.

“The final is open to anyone and everyone to come along, and support the longest-running beauty contest in the area, it’s a glamorous, black-tie evening with entertainment, chance to get dressed up and enjoy a good night out.”

Contestant Jemma Louise Kerr, 21, a pharmacy assistant from Thornton, said: “The Sandcastle shoot was great – the staff were lovely and I had so much fun with all the Miss Blackpool girls and everyone else involved in the competition. I’m really looking forward to the main event now and seeing all the lovely girls again.”

Fellow finalist Kendall Rae Knight, 21, from Preston, said: “It was so nice to get to meet the other girls, as we had come through different heats.

“I loved the Sandcastle event, it was so much fun and the other girls are all so lovely.

“I’m really looking forward to the final now. It would really mean so much to me if I was to win – I would love to represent Blackpool.”

This year’s final will be held on August 16, at the Norbreck Castle.
