STUNNING fireworks lit up the sky and wowed the crowds during a night of colourful displays.
Thousands of families wrapped up warm against the freezing temperatures to witness the explosive action at Blackpool Cricket Club.
A roaring bonfire provided a backdrop to the hundreds of rockets, roman candles and fountains and children waved their sparklers and flashing toys as the fireworks exploded above the resort.
Andrea Loughlin, 33, of Rathnell Close, Grange Park, was watching the West Park Drive display with her four children and husband Ross, 32. She said: “This is the first time we’ve been here but we really enjoyed it.”
Kelly Patterson, 30, of Trunnah Road, Thornton, added: “We come here every year and it’s great for all the family. It’s a great turnout, nowhere compares to this.”
Dane Willey, 22, of Dean Street, Blackpool, watched the display with friends. He said: “This is much better than spending money on fireworks. It’s an epic bonfire and it’s great to see everyone has come out to spend time together.” Liam Carey, 25, watched the fireworks with his nine-year-old sister Madison.
He added: “It’s great to be able to do something like this because fireworks are too expensive now. I’ve been coming here since I was seven and it’s a brilliant night.”
Other events were held in Poulton, Fylde Rugby Club and Fleetwood.
