A resort attraction is celebrating after welcoming record breaking numbers through its doors this year.

Blackpool Zoo has announced 2013 was its busiest year yet, with visitor numbers up 10 per cent.

It is the fifth consecutive year that the zoo’s numbers have risen.

Della Belk, PR and marketing manager at the zoo, said: “Once again we are delighted to announce another record breaking year.

“We believe that this is a reflection of the continued investment as well as positive word of mouth, innovative marketing and fabulous support from our local press.

“It is wonderful to see so many visitors, whether they be first timers, regulars or members, and the continuous rise in numbers shows that people are really enjoying everything we have to offer.

“Our staff, from keepers to cleaners, work extremely hard and every single one of them forms part of the experience people have when they visit, so I would like to extend my thanks to them all.”

School visits were up by seven per cent, internet bookings saw an 55 per cent increase, membership sales rose by 10 per cent, which all led to a 12 per cent rise in revenue.

The zoo was also named Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Lancashire Tourism Awards earlier this month.

It was hailed as “a world-class example of a modern animal attraction with a commitment to conservation which is admired across the globe.”
