HALLOWEEN spells wedding bells for a Blackpool woman after her partner popped the question while on a visit to a theme park.
Bride-to-be Giuliana Nicholson, 24, had no idea a Halloween visit to Scare Kingdom DOOMSDAY Scream Park, near Blackburn, would end with a marriage proposal from long-term boyfriend, Paul Hornby, 31.
Crafty Paul had concocted a plan to trick Giuliana into being caged inside a 6ft by 3ft steel rattrap located inside the scare attraction’s Gaunt Hill Asylum horror zone.
Terrified Giuliana had no idea the menacing hooded scare character locked inside the cage with her was boyfriend of three years, Paul, also from Blackpool, who unmasked a Halloween treat in the shape of a diamond engagement ring.
Giuliana, a second year student at Blackpool and The Fylde College where she is studying for a BA (hons) degree in media studies, said: “I’m in total shock and cannot believe Paul has gone to all this effort.
“I was really scared and didn’t know what was going on and would never have guessed it was Paul with a ring. It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
It is the UK’s first marriage proposal to have taken place at the attraction where actors perform macabre and ghoulish roles and scary ‘bloody’ sets are lit with eerie strobe lights to ensure a full on fear fright experience for thousands of Halloween scare-seekers. Self-employed driving instructor Paul, added: “We met in a horror attraction and both love it, so it seemed fitting to propose in a scare attraction. We’ve been to Scare Kingdom every year since it started in 2009 and it’s one of our favourite haunts so popping the question here seemed right somehow.”
The couple have yet to decide on a wedding date.
