From Nottinghamshire comes this photograph of row after row of men – and the occasional woman – heads down as they sort through the business of the day.
It appears to have been taken in the Empress Ballroom of Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, but little else is known.
With the photograph comes the plea: “If it is not too much of a liberty, I wonder if anyone could throw any light on the attached black and white picture, which we surmise may have been a council meeting or a conference session in the Blackpool area around 1961.”
Seeking answers is Jon Finegold, who adds: “The photograph was taken by Speedak, of Blackpool, and it was requested by my wife’s mother, Pauline Johnson (nee Kennerley) and sent to her in June 1961.
“But we have no knowledge of any link with her family, so if anyone is able to identify the reason for the meeting or conference, that may help us track why Pauline had requested it.
“This was sent to her in June 1961, so obviously pre-dates that, but by how much we have no idea.”
