LIFE at Layton Hill Convent went full circle for Ann Schofield, now Mrs Kelly.
She started in the junior school in 1945, left the senior school in 1958, and finished her career teaching English there.
Ann, who lives on Whitegate Drive, Marton, admits: “I enjoyed my time there so much, and as a day pupil always wanted to be a boarder – too much Enid Blyton!”
In recent months, Memory Lane has featured a number of Classmates articles about the school, whose older buildings have all but disappeared, as the £22.5m redevelopment of what is now St Mary’s College continues. And Ann has sent them all over to her friend and past pupil Pauline Brayford (now Mrs McKenna), who lives in Washington, USA.
She says: “Pauline’s family found them fascinating, and she recently sent me this 1956 class photograph of form 5 Alpha, with our very kind and caring form teacher Mother Virginia.
“I’m on the middle row, first on the left, and Pauline is fourth on the left.”
A couple of names elude her, but Ann clearly remembers Joan Tweedale, Pat Corrigan, Dorothy Evans, Cindy Ennis, Geraldine Tipping, Sylvia Clarkson, Dorothy Hindle, Judith Hughes, Anne Braebaum, Pauline Stubenraugh, Pat Lynch, Barbara Rolleston and Margaret Stritch.
