SCHOOL’S out for summer, but when this picture was taken at Easter 1956, the pupils at Stanley Junior School, setting off for a five-day walking tour in the Lake District, knew they still had a term ahead of them before the big break.

The picture was taken by the late Bill Dalton, whose daughter Delia (now Mrs Bundy) is on the front row third right.

Delia, of Gregson Close, Blackpool, says: “We were at Central Railway Station under the leadership of our headmaster Percy Hall, who was a well-known local historian.

“Some of the pupils will have moved away from the resort, as I did when I went to London in 1972, although I returned in 2001.

“I am still in contact with two of the girls on the photograph, Pat Ketterick and Kay Waddington, and we meet up every now and then with a couple of school friends to reminisce.”

But Delia says she would love to hear from other old classmates on (01253) 760568.

Among the names she remembers from the picture are: Dorothy Parkinson, Christine Pitchford, Anne Alsop, Kay Waddington, Cheryl Brockman, Mary Nicholson, Beatrice Blanchard, Richard Hurst, Gordon Marsland, Peter Taylor, Anne Whittaker, Christine Collier, Pat Vine, Sandra Bird, Peter Allison, Peter Clarke, Stuart Frazer, Alex Robertson, Hadyn Davies and Colin Bell.
