HE might live in the Lake District, but John Salton has a passion for Blackpool, being a keen collector of postcards and memorabilia of the resort.
Among his latest treasures is a commemorative enamalled badge.
At a time when we are applauding the completion of the new headlands, this badge, dated 1905, celebrated the opening of the new sea defences and promenade and, according to John, was probably given to prominent business people at the time.
Tying in with this was a commemorative handkerchief, 18in by 18in, given to workers on completion of the project, and John now has one of them in mint condition and framed.
But pride of place at the moment goes to a silver director’s badge for the Blackpool Tower Company and Winter Gardens and Pavilion Company, hallmarked 1928 and engraved number eight.
John says: “I have searched the internet for information without any luck and wondered if any readers might help me. I wonder how many were made, particularly as this one was number eight.”
Can you help? If so, John can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or on (015394) 48568.
