New 'girl' checks in

Look out boys, there's a new "girl" on the block. Stepping into Betty Legs Diamond's shoes – so to speak – while "she" takes a well deserved break from appearing nightly at Funny Girls is Miss Orry.

One of the original performers when the popular cabaret bar was housed in Queen Street (where Walkabout now resides), Miss Orry has brought a brand new production to the former Odeon building on Dickson Road.

As our photograph shows it includes a routine from the recently opened musical Hairspray.

“I’m not that fat – it’s a costume,” says Miss Orry, who also includes spoofs of Madonna and Beyonce in the show, together with a routine from the film Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Based in Yorkshire, Miss Orry appears all over the country and is the regular deputy for Betty Legs Diamond every January, March and November.

“I really enjoy performing in Funny Girls – it’s a great atmosphere and it’s great fun having a talented cast of bar girls and Betty’s boys performing alongside me,” says Miss Orry. “It’s a totally different show to the normal Funny Girls one – and I’ve spent a fortune on costumes for it.”

The new show is on every night except Monday and runs until Tuesday, November 21.

There’s another chance to catch a glimpse of Miss Orry – on television. The popular drag act is a contestant on Deal Or No Deal in the near future.
