Musical bonanza
Musicals in Motion will be moving into the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham next Friday. The unique show interacts two live West End performers with a virtual cast of over 70 to produce a two and a half hour show featuring the very latest rear-projection technology, CGI animation, computerised sound and lighting and over 30 costume changes.
The show stars Jem Brent (Evita, 42nd Street, Starlight Express) and Rachel Slater (Singing In The Rain, Copacabana, Starlight Express) who perform 37 numbers from 22 musicals – all in fully authentic costumes. Musicals in Motion also boasts a huge cast including an award- winning male voice choir, a full dance ensemble and singers, actors and dancers ranging from six to 86 years old.
With a cast this size, there is only one way to include them all in this spectacular show – virtually!
Via a 24 sq metre rear-projection screen, the virtual cast are projected directly onto the stage to interact with their live West End stars. This produces a cast and CGI sets "virtually" larger than any other from any musical.
The making of Musicals in Motion has taken over a year and has cost over 300,000 to produce.
To make the show a reality, it takes state-of-the-art sound and lighting combined with CGI and "green screen" technology.
This has never before been used on this scale and in this way but with perfect timing, the live performers interact seamlessly with their huge supporting cast - breaking down the barrier between what is "live" and what is "virtual".
With fully choreographed dance routines and a full range of dynamic CGI sets, the audience sees a full musical show which would have previously only been possible by travelling to the West End or Broadway.
