January proves a winner once more in Blackpool

Familiar talent circuit face January Woodhead (left) claimed another first prize when she again took first pace in the Pleasure Beach Star Idol competition.

Just months after a similar victory at the Queens Hotel – and with just about every other local title under her belt – January has gone from strength to Strength adding confidence and stage presence to a voice which could always raise the roof.

Recent years have taught how to perform rather merely deliver her material - which at this final consisted of the dramatic Snow Patrol anthem Run and the currently eponymous Journey stadium filler Don't Stop Believin'.

Looking as good as she sounded she was a clear winner both with the panel of judges and full house of 350 people

Also in with a shout was operatic singer Anthony Clegg - another familiar talent show face who last year won himself a slot on the Preston Charter Theatre pantomime with a victory at the Guild hall's first ever talent search.

His version of The Impossible Dream started a little shakily and he still needs a bit of polish to his delivery but Nessun Dorma is always a winner and came over well.

The evening started with Robert Kelly. Full of clubland confidence, his almost Mohican hairstyle sat oddly with his musical mix of Michael Buble and Westlife.

It wasn't Laura Bunting's best night - nerves spoilt her uptempo can't Fight The Moonlight and almost did the same with the ballad In The Arms of An Angel.

James Wade's juggling made for an interesting change but again nerves kicked in and droppages ruined his chances.

Kurtis Reid revealed considerable potential and a soulful voice with James Morrison's version of Michael Jackson's Man In The Mirror and Stevie Wonder's Superstition.

Scott Slattery's two numbers were a little "swing by numbers" and he need to think about his stage image whilst Michael Donaguge's keyboard set should see him in demand on the hotel circuit.

Gaz Jenkins revealed a big voice ad plenty of pub/cub confidence with two well chosen songs by Will Young and Daniel Merriweather.

Compered by Maxwell Slater, the final was judged by Entertainment Editor Robin Duke, Miss Fylde Coast Kerry Capoverdi and from Stageworks Worldwide Productions, Simon George.
