Festival features winning plays
Blackpool playwright David Riley has two events lined up at Preston's forthcoming Tringe arts event.
The first is a new one act play called Portraits written by him as one of the opening theatre events and being staged at Baraka's cafe/art gallery on Lune Street. on July 24 at 4pm.
The venue was chosen because the play is set in the art/cafe life of early 20th century Paris.
David says the play is inspired by true-life events of Scottish painter John Duncan Fergusson and he is currently speaking with a film maker concerning converting it to create a DVD from the script.
Three of the four performers are from Blackpool, two of them from the Act One drama studio run by Jennifer Smethurst.
The other event is a double header of one-act plays on at the Adelphi, on Fylde Street at 9pm on Wednesday July 28. One is written by David – Great Escape, which was the winner in the 2009/10 one-act play writing competition run at the Grand Theatre.
The other is a comedy by Zoe Lamond, a runner up in the same competition. All the cast are from the Fylde, including Ian Lamond the former education officer of the Grand Theatre.
