SHOWZAM REVIEW: This father and son show always proves a winner

Showzam - Circus Hilarious

Showzam - Circus Hilarious

Circus Hilarious, Opera House. Following in your father’s footsteps is never easy – except if you’re a clown.

Well, the shoes are bigger and you get the chance to hit each other a lot, be as rude as you like, squirt water everywhere and crack the sort of jokes a Christmas cracker script writer would compose if he’d just been sacked.

Clive Webb (the dad) and Danny Adams (the lad) are as much Circus Franticus as Circus Hilarious because together with Michael Potts and their all singing, all rocking, all kinds of everything supportng cast they barely pause for breath (or towels).

There’s traditional slapstick (never accept the invitation to sit closer to the stage than the range of a bucket of water being thrown from it), rock medleys, a surprise appearance of “Susan Boyle,” a midget Elvis and a Kebab Years one, not to mention the occasional dance chart interlude and TJ Roberts perched at the top of five precarious looking chairs.

Clive has been around since the days of Tiswas and some of the jokes were premiered on Noah’s Ark but youngsters love Danny’s manic fusion of Lee Evans, Bobby Ball and Mooky, and plenty of half term mums found a guilty pleasure in nearer the knuckle moments and the sight of a hunky audience volunteer being given a crash course in unicycling. They know who they are!
