DO you know these lads?

Transport bosses in Blackpool are on the lookout for these two boys who were snapped next to the original Western Train tram.

Trawling through their archives at the Rigby Road depot, commercial services boss Bryan Lindop came across this intriguing picture which was taken in 1962, just a few weeks prior to the launch of the iconic tram.

It shows two young boys staring at the steam engine as it passes Hopson Road, close to the depot in South Shore.

But transport chiefs have been left scratching their heads as to who they are and where they are now – so they can invite them to the grand relaunch in two years.

The Western Train tram was last week awarded 278,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) following a Gazette-backed campaign to get the tram back on the promenade tracks.

It is now back in the depot preparing for a total revamp which will see the tram restored to how it is in this picture, along with its illuminated exterior.

As part of their submission to the HLF Blackpool Transport were forced to dust off old publicity shots showing the tram in its former glory days.

Some of the pictures of the tram have sadly gone missing but this, along with two others of the vehicle on its own, remain.

Now Mr Lindop wants to find out where the two lads in the picture are now and invite them to the depot to re-create the iconic shot.

He said: "It's a great picture of two young boys who are mesmerised by the Western Train tram but we have no idea who they are.

"By now they should be well in their 50s and I hope they read or see this, recognise themselves and give us a call.

"We want to invite them to see the restoration of the Western Train tram and see its relaunch in two years time.

"We would also like to recreate the shot – that would top off a great mystery."
