The last of the current series of Fylde Arts mid-day recitals at Poulton Methodist Church, on Friday, is being given by Helen Bywater and Colin Blamey (clarinets) and Russel Lomas (piano).

Helen was born in Lancaster and her early training was at the junior school of the Royal Northern College of Music before being awarded a sixth form place at Chetham’s School of Music where she gave many solo and chamber music performances and was principal clarinet of the College Symphony Orchestra.

After reading English at Manchester University she transferred to the Royal Northern College again becoming principal clarinet in the college orchestra and participating in master classes.

Helen now combines freelance performance work with a successful teaching career including the junior department of the Royal Northern College.

She regularly works with the BBC, Northern Chamber and Camerata Orchestras and has also made several recordings.

Colin was brought up in Fife, studying first in the junior department of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music before the Royal Northern College where he graduated with a B minus and the Professional Performance Diploma.

Since then he has enjoyed a varied freelance career working with many major orchestras, Opera Box, Carl Rosa Opera, and as principal clarinet of the National Festival Orchestra.

A keen chamber musician Colin, along with Helen, is a member of the award winning Fell Clarinet Quartet, regularly broadcasting and giving many recitals throughout the UK.

Russell Lomas is well-known as a gifted pianist who for many years was head of accompaniment at Chetham’s School of Music. Since his retirement from that post he continues to work with and foster many young musicians – in these and in many other series of recitals.

The recital begins at 1pm. Admission £6 (£4 for Fylde Arts members). Hot meals and light refreshments are available.
