SHOWZAM: Stars of wonder

editorial image

There’s magic in the air when Chester’s leading professional community theatre company stages its new production in the Grand Theatre’s Lawrence House Studio from tomorrow until Thursday as part of the Showzam! festival.

Star of Wonder tells the tale of a small group of music hall performers whose lives are affected by the introduction of a new act – an acclaimed female magician, Isis, the Star of Egypt.

The fate of two young lovers hangs in the balance as the lines between illusion and reality, love and ambition are blurred by their encounter with the beautiful and exotic magician, self-proclaimed possessor of the lost secrets of ancient Egyptian magic. We see the characters on stage and off as they reveal their secrets, dreams and fears in a glimpse into a world gone by – a world where magic is real.

Theatre in The Quarter was founded in 2005 and has quickly gained a reputation for original music theatre, engaging with professional actors, musicians, directors and designers, as well as the community.

Its original productions draw inspiration from the lives and experiences of the people of Chester and surrounding areas.

All seats £7. Concessions available. Call the box office on (01253) 743339 or click on www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk, or visit us the Grand Theatre information sales point in the Houndshill Shopping Centre.

Other Showzam! shows at the Grand Theatre include The Animals and the Children Took to the Streets (February 14) and Circus Shorts (February 15).
