Russell’s ready to Kane it

Comedian Russell Kane is looking forward to coming to The Grand.

Comedian Russell Kane is looking forward to coming to The Grand.

Comic Russell Kane on The Big One, meeting his girlfriend while naked and what Manscaping is.

Russell Kane is enjoying being back on the road.

The slim-line comedian has had a roller-coaster 12 months - which saw a marriage break-up, TV appearances, his first nude photoshoot and him presenting another series of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here Now!

Readers may remember the time he dressed up as Beyonce to dance to Crazy in Love and got through to the final of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief.

Like his namesakes Brand and Howard, the comedian combines looks and humour, with intelligence.

And he’s coming to Blackpool next Sunday to bring his latest show, which discusses about his - albeit failed - attempts to be “a stud.”

Should be interesting from someone who once claimed his secret crush was Ann Widdecombe...

Russell decided he wanted to come to the resort, as part of his Manscaping Tour after recording for BBC Radio 2 at the Grand Theatre.

He said: “I was doing the Whistlestop Tour for Radio 2 and they had found us a room at the Grand Theatre to do the show.

“I love it, so when I was planning the tour, I said ‘I have got to go back there’. It’s a brilliant venue.”

While here for the show, Russell had the chance to look round Blackpool.

“I was there for a day and did all the tourist things in one day, it was brilliant.

“I went on The Big One and it was awesome.

although I was a bit worried about losing the contents of my stomach or bowels!”

His live show, Manscaping, he says, is about a “crisis of confidence”.

He says: “I had just come out of a long-term relationship and I was single for the first time in a very long time.

“In the show, I talk about my pathetic attempts to be a stud.

“I thought I’d be able to live up the stereotype of what comedians make their lives out to be like.

“But it didn’t work out like that.”

It was widely reported Russell - who will be soon hosting a new TV series on BBC Three called Look at The State of You - last year split from comedienne Sadie Hasler.

And the 31-year-old, who lives in Essex, met his current girlfriend, model Charlotte Austin, in a rather unusual way.

He was doing a naked photoshoot for women’s magazine Cosmopolitan - and she was obscuring Russell’s privates with her head.

He said: “Once you’ve been in that situation with someone, it does kind of break the ice!

“It’s going brilliant at the moment. We’re not living together, but we’re together seven days of the week.”

Russell says he is looking forward to coming back to Blackpool.

“I like touring, I know the show now. I feel like I know what I’m doing.

“It’s just good to be back on the road.

“I love the differences between venues. There’s comedy clubs, there’s regular venues and then there’s those old school theatres, like the Blackpool Grand.

“Quite often those old theatres can be the best gigs.

“People coming to see the show can expect high energy!

“There will be self-analysis, self-deprecation and a smattering of filth.

“I’m looking forward to coming to Blackpool, it’s such a friendly place.

“Come along – it’ll be fun.”
