Punk Spectacular
Picture By: Duncan Bryceland - Picture shows John Lydon performing with Public Image Ltd (PIL) on the third night of their seven date reunion tour at the O2 Academy, Glasgow, Scotland, UK 18th December 2009. Singer John Lydon was formerly known as Johnny Rotton and was the frontman for the notorious English Punk band the Sex Pistols who produced an array of infamous songs such as 'God Save The Queen', 'Anarchy In the UK', 'Holiday In The Sun' and 'Pretty Vacant'. The shows mark the 30th Anniversary of the release of PIL's groundbreaking 'Metal Box' album and the gig showcased their whole career including their eponymous seminal single 'Public Image', 'Flowers of Romance', '(This is Not a) Love Song' and 'Rise'.
John Lydon’s legendary post-Sex Pistols, post-punk outfit Public Image Limited (PiL) are the latest line-up to be signed for Blackpool’s Rebellion punk festival in August.
The band, which re-formed a couple of years ago, (before its frontman started advertising Country Life butter on television) have been touring to critical acclaim, and have a new album out later this year.
It’s a major coup for the world’s premier punk festival, and adds to names such as Rancid and Bow Wow Wow, who are already on the bill, with 150 bands over the week.
The biggest punk festival in the world has spent the last few years broadening its remit to cover all manner of post-punk and experimental music, along with the classic punk bands, which makes PiL a perfect headliner for the festival.
The band will headline in the Empress Ballroom.
PiL’s 1978 Metal Box set still sounds futuristic now, and is one of the most daring and revolutionary records ever released.
After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed post-punk originators Public Image Ltd in 1978.
PiL continued until 1992 with an ever-changing line-up and unique sound which saw them fuse rock, pop, dance, folk, ballet and dub.
Widely regarded as one of the most innovative bands of all time, their music and vision earned them five UK Top 20 singles and five UK Top 20 albums.
Lydon will be joined by former PiL members Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) along with more recent recruit Scott Firth (bass).

Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 02:26 AMNo need for the country life sarcasm.Lydon was on celebrity jungle as well.Does it matter? He is an icon.A true legend. He's been through a lot, speaks a lot of sense and still does it.That deserves respect.
