It’s all about Eva in the return of a popular musical

Sarah Jane Buckley as Eva Cassidy

Sarah Jane Buckley as Eva Cassidy

Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jane Buckley is returning to the Fylde coast in her starring role as the much missed American singer Eva Cassidy.

The ninth UK tour of Over The Rainbow: The Eva Cassidy Story – which visited Blackpool Grand Theatre last year – will be at Lytham’s Lowther Pavilion on Wednesday, February 15.

Since its first performance in 2004, the musical play has received rave receptions and five-star reviews.

It’s the poignant and moving story of Washington-born singer Eva Cassidy who was unknown outside Washington when she died but within four years Terry Wogan discovered and promoted her haunting interpretation of Somewhere Over the Rainbow to the top of the charts.

This sad but uplifting musical play journeys through her life, from her idyllic childhood growing up in a musical family, to her studio work with boyfriend and mentor Chris Biondo; to the exuberant live recording of Blues Alley and finally to her tragically premature death aged 33.

Over The Rainbow: The Eva Cassidy Story has wowed audiences all over Europe and includes almost 30 of her best-loved songs, recreated by a cast of West End performers, including unforgettable classics such as Fields of Gold, Songbird, Autumn Leaves and Kathy’s Song.

Sarah Jane Buckley stars as Eva Cassidy, Pauline Fleming (Coronation Street, Brookside) is Barbara Cassidy, and Rob McVeigh (PopStar! The Musical, Any Dream Will Do) is Danny Cassidy, with accomplished West End actor Robert Grose (The Lion King, Starlight Express and Five Guys Named Moe) playing larger-than-life music mogul, Chuck Brown.

Sarah Jane Buckley is best known for her role as Kathy Barnes in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, but can also boast an array of successful musical, pantomime and cabaret credits including her one-woman cabaret show and appearance at the age of 22 in the UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
