THE French film revolution is finally heading to the Fylde coast with a long delayed screening of The Artist.

The most talked about film of the year – ironically a silent one – opens at Blackpool Odeon on Friday after scooping a shelf full of successes at last weekend’s British Academy of Film and Television Awards.

The Oscar tipped movie picked up seven Bafta awards including Best Film, Actor and Director as well as picking up Best Original Screenplay.

Director Michel Hazanavicius said: “Many people thought there was no script because there was no dialogue – so English people are very clever.”

Having originally been restricted to selected cinemas when it hit the UK at the end of last year, the Blackpool screening comes as a relief to the coast’s film fans – many of who complained to The Gazette about the delay. Blackpool Odeon manager Colin Alexander said today: “It’s taken longer than we hoped to secure a copy of The Artist for Blackpool but we are delighted to finally be showing the most talked about and most critically acclaimed film of the year so far.”

The Artist will be show at 3pm, 5.30pm and 7.45pm from Friday to Thursday with additional 12.45pm screenings from Friday to Sunday.
